Streamsim Technologies is a high-tech software company providing oil companies world-wide with reservoir modeling tools to improve the profitability of existing assets. We are based in San Francisco with close ties to the petroleum engineering department at Stanford University. Streamsim Technologies is looking for a full-time software engineer/developer for mid-January 2019 for our Calgary office. Their primary responsibility will be in the development, testing, and bug-fixing of Streamsim’s studioSL software. studioSL is our Java-based GUI for reservoir simulation input and output, advanced 3D and data visualization, reservoir modeling, optimization, economics, and forecasting workflows.

Although studioSL development would be your main focus, you have a chance to influence design, interact with users, attend and present at technical conferences, and participate in innovation.

You must be able to legally work and reside in Canada, hold at least an MSc degree from an accredited university and possess strong programming skills and scientific background.  As part of the candidate selection process, candidates may be asked to code a small project within the NetBeans environment to be done after the interview. Details will be provided during the interview.

  • Personal skills

    • ability to work in team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, oral)

    • mindset for object-oriented design

    • exceptional problem solving, critical thinking skills, concepts abstraction, eye for unintended consequences, wide view of implications of decisions made

    • precise, organized, and attention to detail

  • Programming qualifications

    • proficient in Java 8+

    • unit tests driven development

    • Java for desktop: Swing as a minimum

    • IDE: NetBeans preferred

    • NetBeans Platform API is a plus

    • Java3D and/or OpenGL is a plus

    • Subversion as minimum

    • git or Mercurial is a plus

    • Issue tracking experience

  • Other desirable qualifications

    • previous work experience in commercial software development

    • experience in developing scientific software

    • knowledge of 3D visualization and visual analytics

    • exposure to the upstream oil & gas industry

    • understanding of ML/AI methods
