Are you a First Class Power Engineer with experience operating a large scale public facility?  Our client, a top employer in Calgary, is seeking someone to join the team on a permanent basis.  Reporting to the Manager, Power Plant, this person is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Central Utility Plant (CUP), HVAC, Plumbing and Gas systems and also focuses on reliability improvement projects.  If this sounds like something you are interested in, apply today!

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages projects geared towards increasing reliability of the heating and cooling services
  • Provide preventative and predictive maintenance for ABSA certified pressure vessels and other regulated equipment
  • Act as a back up to the Power Plant Manager
  • Monitors and oversees Steam Boiler Plant, Chiller Plant, Emergency Generators, HVAC, Plumbing and Gas systems
  • Prioritizes, assigns and follows up on required tasks throughout the facility
  • Implements operational and preventative maintenance plans for the Power Plant and Plumbing departments that support operations and reduce risk
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, standards and Institution policies
  • Regularly interacts with approved consultants, suppliers and service providers
  • Coordinates contracted services and manages a variety of projects

Candidate Qualifications

  • 1st Class Operating Engineer Certificate (valid and up-to-date with Alberta Boilers Safety Codes Act compliance)
  • Five years of experience operating in a large scale facility
  • Prior experience managing in a unionized environment an asset
  • Equivalent work experience, training and education may be considered
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of applicable legislation and standards required
  • Knowledge of Power Plant operations for a diverse facility
  • Proven superior strategic thinking, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure
  • Intermediate computer proficiency
  • Strong organization, prioritization and time-management skills required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
