Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures is proud to partner with Lakeland College to assist the Technology Development Advisor within the Lloydminster region. Lakeland College has campuses in Lloydminster and Vermilion and is focused on teaching, research and learning in four key themes of expertise within the College: energy entrepreneurship, agriculture, environmental sciences, and fire and emergency medicine. The College’s Applied Research and Innovation Unit is very involved in the Regional Business Accelerator and the development of a Regional Innovation Network for East Central Alberta.
Located in Lloydminster at Lakeland College, the Technology Development Advisor (TDA) will be responsible for engaging Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) in their region. These industry technical, product development and business expert are an invaluable resource to the individual firms, not only for their grasp of relevant technology, but also to provide information with current product development issues, sourcing of inputs, key business contacts, customer potential and first-hand experience in what makes good products work.
TDAs will work directly with individual companies and on proposals and projects. TDAs will be co-located with appropriate organizations throughout the province acting as a key business development link between SMEs and any number of service provider organisations in the region that the TDA serves (regions and thus TDAs will overlap). Where merited by industry need, TDAs will work alongside other support entities complementing their services to companies. These TDAs will form an integrated network that uses its broad range of expertise and contacts to service all SME’s across the province to ensure these clients are getting the best service possible.
Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or business (a Master’s in business would be deemed an asset) and more than 20 years of business experience in a manufacturing or production setting with 5 years holding a key management or senior management role. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking and presentation skills along with excellent managerial and fiscal management experience.
