The role of a Visitor Service’s staff member requires an enthusiastic and engaging individual to welcome our visitors in an enjoyable and informative way and to deliver excellent standards of customer care at all times.
Provide a high standard of welcome to all visitors and interact with them in order to bring the museum building and its collection to life.
· Develop a thorough knowledge of the Museum, its history, collections, services and exhibits in order to provide accurate, interesting and useful information to our visitors.
· Ensure the high quality appearance of the museum on a daily basis, including the regular checking of visitor areas during open hours and undertaking any responsive cleaning or litter clearing which may be necessary.
· Provide an orientation to large groups of visitors on the history of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and the current exhibits.
· Admissions Desk
o Accept deliveries
o Greet guests and direct guests for office personnel
o Set up volunteers with passes and /or other equipment as required (sign in and out)
o Advise the volunteers of any special activities or expected special guests
o Complete daily transactions for ticket and membership sales as well as retail sales.
o Reconcile admission and sales takings with till records on a daily basis, and to ensure that all monies are placed in the safe at the close of each day.
A key skill to be a successful team member is to have the ability and desire to learn, to be outgoing, friendly and easy to work with as well as to have exceptional interpersonal skills.
o Interpersonal communication skills
§ To be able to speak and communicate clearly and confidently with CSHoF guests. Because of the diversity of Canada Sports Hall of Fame guests, we often deal with guests who do not speak fluent English. It is imperative that our communication skills be clear.
§ A second language is an asset
§ To be able to work as an active member of this Visitor Services team
o Cash Handling
§ To be able to operate an online point of sale cash system
§ Numeracy and Math Skill - Be able to calculate basic math
o Computer Skills
§ Basic to intermediate computer skills are required
§ Word processing, spread sheets, data bases, Microsoft Outlook
o Public Speaking
§ To be able to speak directly to both small and large groups of visitors at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and to inform them about the galleries, current exhibits and any museum closures.
