Voice Captioner - Respeaker Trainee
What National Captioning Canada Inc. is Hiring for:
Watch TV for work! Ever wonder how closed captions are created?
If you are interested in broadcast media and have excellent written and oral English communication skills, apply now to become a voice captioner.
You will be trained to use voice recognition software to create captions for live broadcast programming and time-coding software to align text to pre-recorded media.
Based in the Calgary, Alberta head office, the ideal candidate will have a combination of the following skills and competencies:
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
- An articulate, clear and strong speaking voice
- Demonstrated time-management skills
- Ability to respond calmly, and think quickly under pressure
- Keen interest in geography, sports, politics, and current affairs
- Experience proofreading, editing text for 100% accuracy would be an asset
- Native English fluency and accent
- Spanish or French fluency considered an asset
Selected candidates will undergo competency tests.
Special preference will be given to those with a second language and/or a post-secondary education.
Starting Salary is $17.50/hr with an increase to $20/hr after training is completed. Bilingual candidates will be considered at a higher rate.
- Full-time positions averaging 36 hours/week
- Early-morning/Late-evening shift work
The selection process for this role includes 2 components. First you will be asked to complete an online spelling, punctuation and grammar test. If successful you will be asked to complete a practical respeaking test. Successful candidates will be asked to interview at a later date.
